With increased use of the internet for work and shopping, piracy has also increased. For content creators, their works are more at risk on the internet. The mechanism to protect them, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), is not, according to the Copyright Office, sufficiently protecting their rights and is skewed in favor of tech companies. This presentation will give a run-down of the 2020 Senate hearings on the DMCA focusing on how the safe harbor rules impact creatives when they attempt to protect their works online.
