Have an idea and wondered about patents? Join Georgia PATENTS and patent attorney Zach Stevenson of the law firm Thomas Horstemeyer on December 6 from 12:30 am – 2:30 pm for an in-depth look at the U.S. patent system.
A patent is a right granted by the U.S. government to the owner of an invention that is useful, novel, and non-obvious over the prior art. The owner of a U.S. patent may exclude others from practicing the invention for about 20 years after the filing date of the application which gave rise to the patent. This seminar will cover what makes an invention “patentable” and provide an overview of the patent application process.
Zach Stevenson is a member of the electrical/computer practice group at Thomas Horstemeyer. Zach’s practice focuses on patent preparation and prosecution, including both utility and design patent applications. Zach also assists clients with trademark, copyright, and trade secret matters.
Zach began his career by working for a small software development company. After 6 years of industry experience, Zach decided to change his career and attended Emory University, School of Law to become a patent attorney. At Emory, Zach participated in the Ti:GER program, a multi-disciplinary program where law students obtain real-world skills developing an intellectual property strategy and commercialization plan for a PhD candidate’s innovation. After law school, Zach worked for Georgia Lawyers for the Arts assisting new inventors on the patenting process. Zach has been at Thomas Horstemeyer since 2021. Zach is authorized to practice law in the state of Georgia and to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
